Meet Margaret Wind

Managing Director – SafeShip Limited

Margaret Wind has spent more than 30 years at the heart of New Zealand’s commercial marine industry, building a reputation as one of its most trusted and passionate advocates.

As Managing Director of SafeShip Limited, she works alongside vessel owners and operators to make sense of the complex world of maritime compliance. From MOSS and HSWA requirements through to vessel registration, exemptions, seafarer licensing, and safety systems, Margaret’s expertise helps operators stay safe, compliant, and confident on the water.

Her leadership extends beyond SafeShip.

As Executive Director of the NZ Marine Transport Association, Margaret has been a strong voice for the sector for over a decade, ensuring the interests of operators are heard and supported. She also wears another hat as Publisher and Editor of Professional Skipper Magazine — the country’s only dedicated marine industry publication — where she shares the latest news, views, and insights shaping New Zealand’s maritime world.

Earlier in her career, Margaret held senior roles with MMS Limited and BP Oil, gaining valuable experience in ship safety systems, risk assessment, occupational health, and commercial operations.

Today, she combines that depth of knowledge with a genuine passion for the industry, working to lift standards, champion safety, and support a thriving future for New Zealand’s maritime community.
